PAINTING A CEMENT FLOOR

PAINTING A CEMENT FLOOR

PREVIOUSLY PAINTED SURFACES:

Insure to remove any traces of flaking or loose paint by using a scraper or steel brush. Clean with a mixture of trisodium phosphate (TSP) and water, and rinse thoroughly. TSP is a degreaser that is used to wash surfaces prior to painting or staining. It can be purchased at MF Paints distributors. Use a stiff bristle broom to scrub the surface it will do a thorough cleaning job. It is recommended to wait 48 hours before applying the paint in order to allow the surface to completely dry. On a previously painted surface, it is recommended to apply a coat of ADHERO PLUS 290 to enhance the adhesion of the EPOXY PLUS 3773. Consult the technical data sheet before applying the product. Then apply two topcoats.

NEW AND UNPAINTED CONCRETE:

For new surfaces, ensure at least 30 days until the concrete has fully cured. Treat surface with a solution of muriatic acid and water to remove the surface laitance often found on new cement floors. Use a stiff bristle broom to scrub the surface it will do a thorough cleaning job. When muriatic acid is used, wear appropriate protective clothing. Muriatic acid can be replaced with cleaners that are specifically formulated for concrete surfaces, see your MF Paints distributor for further details. Rinse with clear water. Dilute the first coat 10% with water when applying on a bare concrete floor. Then apply two undiluted coats.

PRODUCT:

When applying, use a 15 mm roller and a good quality nylon-polyester brush. Our EPOXY PLUS 3773 paint is designed for floors, has a semi-gloss finish and offers excellent resistance. However, it is important not to use the product on floors that will be in contact with tires. To paint a garage floor that houses vehicles, a 100% solid two component epoxy coating would perform adequately.

Enjoy your beautiful new floor!
